The Sensitive Haul: What We Bought in May 2018

Another month, another super-reasonable and not at all embarrassing amount of money spent on skincare and makeup. Here’s what we bought, what we loved, and what we totally and completely hated.

Love This: Milk Makeup Kush Mascara

You keep seeing this mascara everywhere for a reason: It's really, really good. Milk's recently released volumizing mascara promises zero clumping, intense color payoff, and lash-nourishing benefits from hemp-derived cannabis oil. The $24 tube has easily become my new high-ish-end fave. The formula goes on like a dream, doesn't have a spidery effect even with a couple layers, and delivers defined-yet-fluffy lashes. Then, there's the brush. Too often, great mascaras come with shitty brushes -- or vice versa. Not the case here. Milk's tapered, bushy wand skirts the almost-too-big line, landing just this side of perfect with criss-cross bristles that, in the words of the Offspring, keep 'em separated. Becky Bartkowski

Love: Cremo Lavender Moisturizing Concentrated Shave Cream

Dunno if you know this, but pretty much every drugstore shaving cream you've heard of is tested on animals. (Do a Google.) In my quest for a vegan option that isn't, like, all-out granola life, I found Cremo, an $8 option available at Target. They don't exactly scream from the rooftops that they're cruelty-free, but they sure are. Pro-tips: Follow the directions because this is not your typical, foamy shaving cream. A little goes a long way. And you've gotta lather like your life depends on it. The results? A super-smooth shave . B.B.

Meh: Edible Beauty Exotic Goddess Ageless Serum

In my online search for a treatment that was both natural and brightening, the powers that be at Sephora recommended this serum from Australian-based line Edible Beauty. Although customer reviews were few, they were all extremely positive. So I decided to give this $60 bottle a chance. Unfortunately, I have yet to really see a return on my investment. But I'm wiling to keep an open mind and continue trying it because A.) It's only been a couple weeks, B.) It hasn't broken me out, and C.) I'm a sleep-deprived new mom who barely has the time or energy to wash her hair, so maybe relying on any one product to make me an "exotic goddess" is a crapshoot at this point. - Katie Johnson

Love: Glossier Cloud Paint

On the hunt for a liquid blush that melts into your skin and looks natural AF? Glossier's got you. I sprung for a $30 two-pack of the brand's acclaimed Cloud Paint and haven't been disappointed. The teeniest amount of gel-cream from the tube has gorgeous, buildable pigment payoff. Puff is a delicate baby pink, and has been my daily go-to. Haze is a purple-berry that I'm planning to roll out for some summer nighttime lewks. B.B.

Love This: Ursa Major Hoppin' Fresh Deodorant

Remember how much I loved Schmidt's natural deodorants? Well they're dead to me now that I've discovered Ursa Major's Hoppin' Fresh ($18). The Vermont-based brand had already been on my radar thanks to sources like The Cut. But after rave reviews from my sister about its ability to withstand even the sweatiest of workouts -- not to mention its easy application -- my pits and I finally took the plunge. And I gotta say, the timing couldn't better because this refreshing stick is the only thing keeping me from being 100% disgusting as I forgo my usual level of hygiene to take care of a newborn. K.J.
