6 Products I Slather on My Eczema-Prone Skin
There are a lot of things that upset my skin: hormones, weather, stress, new products, full moons, special occasions, people who leave their blinker on while they’re driving, et. al. Usually those upsets result in deep, under-the-skin pimples or a nice series of tiny bumps that feel like Braille on my cheeks. But come winter time, my complexion’s go-to ailment is eczema.
Unlike acne, less is more when it comes to curing the itchy inflammation that is eczema, which can be a real drag when holiday parties are looming and your inherent patience level is basically already zero. Fortunately, I’ve acquired a few products in my beauty arsenal that help me bid adieu to my atopic dermatitis.
Vanicream
Yeah, Cerave and Cetaphil have their cult followings but in my opinion the real O.G. is Vanicream. It’s free from dyes, lanolin, fragrance, formaldehyde, parabens -- basically so many things that you wonder what could actually still be in it. But it gets the job done when my skin is over-dried, over-worked, and well, just over everything. Not sure where to start? I recommend the following:
Cerave Moisturizing Cream
If the texture of Vanicream’s skin cream doesn’t sit right with you (admittedly, it's thick consistency takes some getting used to), an easy substitute is Cerave’s moisturizing cream. My dermatologist loves it and honestly if it weren’t for the slightly annoying parabens (a personal vendetta of mine), I’d probably give it first place.
Osmia Organics Organic Milk Bath
Okay, it might seem like a bit of a contradiction to take a warm bath when your skin is already dry and flakey but me hear me out. This. Shit. Is. Magical. It’s essentially powdered milk, oats, and some essential oils but my god does it feel divine. After a few soaks in this, I swear my eczema is virtually gone and my skin feels baby smooth. The only downside is that it leaves a mess in the in the tub. But hey, it’s a small price to pay for relief.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
If you looking for something a little more high-end to treat your weather-worn skin, First Aid Beauty has basically built its reputation at Sephora on this all-over cream. In addition to being chockfull of ceramides and shea butter, FAB Ultra Repair Cream contains colloidal oatmeal, which is a serious skin soother.
