Sensitive Haul: Here's What We Bought in April
Another month, another super-reasonable and not at all embarrassing amount of money spent on skincare and makeup. Here’s what we bought, what we loved, what was meh, and what was the literal worst.
Love This: Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation
A friend of mine agreed to take photos of me the other week, and naturally I woke up with a nice pimple between the eyes. Fortunately I had just picked this up at the Sephora sale, and I’ve got to say the coverage and skin tone matching was legit. It’s more substantial than my everyday BB cream but it still doesn’t feel as heavy as a traditional foundation. In other words, it’s a foundation my pores and I can agree on. Katie Johnson
Meh: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
This eyeliner was easy to apply and put up a decent hold. Unfortunately it was still no match for my oily eyelids. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to keep using it (and reapplying it throughout the day like all my eyeliners) but I was really hoping it would live up to its 24/7 claim. K.J.
Love This: bareMinerals READY™ Blush
I came into Sephora ready to drop serious money on Hourglass' Ambient Lighting Blush only to find that, regardless of which shade I tried, it was not doing my complexion any favors. So I ditched the pretty packaging and went straight for a basic blush from bareMinerals. Turns out, this is exactly what I was looking for. Aptly named, "The One," this blush gives my cheeks the subtle everyday color they need without the sometimes unnecessary ethereal strobe lighting. K.J.
Love This: Fenty Beauty Fairy Bomb Glittering Pom Pom
She lives up to the hype. It's a fluffy ball of super-fine rose-gold glitter that smells like vanilla and coconut. Thank you, queen Rihanna. Have a blessed day. Becky Bartkowski
Love This: bareMinerals BarePRO™ Performance Wear Liquid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20
Oh my actual god. It's a foundation I don't hate! After months of hunting for something with good -- but natural! -- coverage that doesn't dry out my already parched skin, I landed on this super-thin liquid base from bareMinerals. One pump is your skin but better. Two gives full coverage. And word to the wise: You'll def want a foundation bush to apply. I give it all the stars. B.B.
Love This: COSRX Triple C Lightning Liquid
This Korean serum packs a wallop. At $27, it's a cheapie dupe for Drunk Elephant's acclaimed Vitamin C serum. It has a cult following all its own, thanks to a super-potent concentration of ascorbic acid. The cruelty-free liquid is a watery consistency that delivers a nice tingle upon application and works best used in the evening. I've been doubling up with this at night and my beloved Klairs during the day. Let's just say a lotta skin compliments are coming my way. B.B.
Love This: Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint
Rihanna's universal red liquid lipstick is pretty much everything it's cracked up to be. While the formula is a little unwieldy, the color payoff is killer (on my mega-pale complexion it's a to-die-for goth red) and it does not budge. Well, for the most part. Here's my trick for applying: Wipe most of the product off the angled, curvy doe foot and apply a super-thin layer, starting at the inside of the lip and working toward the line. Blot and add a second -- but still very, very thin -- layer. That's it. In road-testing this lip on beer and pizza, I did find that it faded toward the inside of my lip. But those outer lines went exactly nowhere, and it was easy to retouch. B.B.
