Sensitive Haul: Here's What We Bought in September
Another month, another super-reasonable and not at all embarrassing amount of money spent on skincare and makeup. Here’s what we bought, what we loved, and what we totally and completely hated.
Love This: Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner
It was a bad month for my wallet but a good month for my face. I give a lot of the credit to this new Klairs toner that I found on Soko Glam (my new go-to site for K-Beauty products). The paraben-free, cruelty-free toner has a thicker consistency than expected, but it absorbs into my skin almost instantly, leaving me with a hydrated -- dare I say glowing? -- complexion. Side note: You can get it on Amazon for a cheaper. I just like Soko Glam because they supposedly ensure that none of the products are expired and are 100 percent legit. Katie Johnson
Love This: Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream
Look, I don't ask for much in an eye cream. Should it provide my eye area with some much needed moisture? Yes. Should it be paraben-free? Ideally. But that's it. My list stops there. And yet far too often I have taken a chance on an eye cream that has left my delicate skin red, flaking, and/or swollen (I'm looking at you, Drunk Elephant). Fortunately this hypoallergenic Perricone MD eye cream gets me and my sensitive lids. In fact, this is the third time in a row I've bought this little green jar, which is saying something for a product junkie like myself. K.J.
Love This: Manefit Bling Bling Hydrogel Mask - Whitening Platinum
I have a made a lot of mistakes in my life. But accidentally ordering a five-pack of these Manefit masks in the midst of an online shopping bender is not one of them. Firstly, I love that, because this is a hydrogel mask, I don't have to deal the muss and fuss of the usual sheet mask (which basically feels like trying to form a wet piece of Xerox paper to your apparently disproportionate face). Secondly it makes my skin look dope as fuck. The level of post-mask glow I obtained after this bad boy could best be described as Kardashian-esque. I even gave one to my sister, who later told me that her boyfriend couldn’t stop commenting on her skin for the next three days. Yeah. That good. K.J.
Fuck That: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
Okay, I'm not a big foundation person, but I like to have one in rotation for glamming and/or higher coverage when my skin isn't looking its best. YouTubers love this cruelty free, full-coverage option from Too Faced. And I thought I would, too. In-store, it blended nicely, and Too Faced even had a perfect-match shade for my printer-paper complexion. (Omg, swan!!) But IRL, the formula emphasized dry patches, cracked within 30 minutes, and looked so so bad. Bitch, I was not born that way. Becky Bartkowski
Love This: Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask
Say hello to high-key luxury. This Tatcha sheet mask delivers a legit at-home spa experience and gorgeous results. With a super-thick sheet and a laundry list of ingredients (including a whole fucking coconut??) that ensure it lives up to its name, this mask is the perfect antidote to a shitty week. And yeah, it comes with a very silly $25 price tag. But unlike other high-end masks *cough* SK-II *cough*, this one is cruelty free. B.B.
Fuck That: It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer
Honestly, if any product needs 72 descriptors in its name, maybe that's a bad sign. But I tried It Cosmetics' Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer after Rio Viera-Newton raved about it as a magic bullet for covering and treating dark circles. Newsflash: It actually sucks. I found it super drying, pro-aging, and the slim-thick texture was tough to blend (even after warming up the concealer). Hey, bonus: It looked awful. B.B.
