Sensitive Haul: Here's What We Bought in August
Another month, another super-reasonable and not at all embarrassing amount of money spent on skincare and makeup. Here’s what we bought, what we loved, and what we totally and completely hated.
Love This: Tatcha The Water Cream
It’s still triple digits outside, so wearing heavy makeup or creams means looking like a melting wax statue by noon. Of course I live in the desert, so I need a face cream that feels as moisturizing as it does nonexistent. Cue Tatcha's The Water Cream. Thus far, I’ve liked everything I’ve tried from this luxury Japanese brand and this cream is no different. True to its name, it practically turns to liquid once it hits your face, which admittedly takes some getting used to -- but it beats looking like I broke out of Madame Tussauds.
Love This: Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling
I love acids. Whether or not they love me is up for debate. But these Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling pads are giving me hope. The citrus-infused pads offer the best of both worlds, delivering a chemical and physical exfoliation that’s mild enough for sensitive types like yours truly. Just don’t be an idiot and use them every day right off the bat like a certain idiot we all know (again, yours truly).
Fuck That: Neogen Dermalogy Green Tea Fresh Foam Cleanser
Call me old fashioned but, when it comes to my face washes, I prefer a DIY lather. But I figured, hey, I loved those Neogen Dermalogy pads so much, let’s see what their Green Tea Real Fresh Foam Cleanser has to offer. Spoiler alert: not much. Not only did it dry out my skin ever so slightly but it also made me realize that pre-foamed suds on somewhat acne-prone complexion doesn't quite cut it.
Love This: Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Nobody's Baby
On work days when I’m sporting the “no makeup” makeup look (see: everyday), I reach for Ilia’s Tinted Lip Conditioner in Nobody’s Baby. Not only is this green beauty favorite free from harsh chemicals and animal testing, it also offers a moisturizing shade of warm nude that’s perfect for summer (and a little too perfect to be natural).
Love This: Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist
August was a good month for Tatcha trials here at HQ. And the brand's Luminous Dewy Skin Mist comes with a chiller commitment level than switching up your face cream. The mist moisturizer promises a perfectly moisturized complexion, like an IRL Snapchat filter. Does it make me glow like Chrissy Teigen? Fuck no. But my super-dry face looks hydrated and pretty great after three spritzes over my usual concealer routine. Perhaps more importantly, this purple bottle's a much-needed ally in my fight against 4 p.m. corpse face.
Love This: Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop
The quest for glow knows no end. Which brings us to this Klairs Vitamin C serum. It comes in the cutest spacey hologram-and-white packaging. But this Korean brand delivers beyond aesthetics. Applied with a white dropper, the quick-to-absorb clear treatment is the first thing that goes on my face straight outta the shower. It's not at all irritating -- and the healthy looking skin payoff is legit.
Fuck That: Skin Laundry's Hydrating Facial Sheet Mask
I've been going to Skin Laundry for semi-regular laser facials for a little more than a year now. They are great and I love them. (And I will tell you more about them next week.) But their products? Yeahno. Case in point: This moisturizing sheet mask from the quickie spa spot. It has a weirdly clinical scent and it made me break out. Pass.
